The Sangamo Archaeological Center is a private research organization founded in 1998 by Robert Mazrim. The mission of the Center is to provide research and interpretive opportunities for archaeological sites and artifacts that fall outside of state or federally mandated study, salvage, or protection. The principal focus of the Center’s activities and collections is on the French Colonial and American Frontier periods of the Midwestern United States, circa 1720-1840. All excavations, exhibits, publications, and programs have been supported by private funding, and receive no financial assistance from state or federal agencies.
